Soweto Arbour Day 4 September

On 4 September Johannesburh City Parks celebrtated Madiba's legacy, with a celebration combining a 90th birthday wish for Nelson Mandela with a tree planting ceremony.

The 90990th tree was planted by Madiba in Soweto, as part of the project to plant 200000 trees before 2010.

As a sponsor of SAGIC(South African Green Industries Council) we were involved in a donation by SAGIC members. The members donated more than 3000 trees, and other equipment including hosepipes, fertilizer and equipment. Our company donated a Stihl HT101 Pole pruner(to prune the high branches on the trees in Soweto).

The day was exciting with loads of children from schools in the area planting trees, Danny K, Loyiso Bala and children singing Happy Birthday to Madiba, a huge cake, and of course the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

We have to turn the world green, and not only plant 200,000 trees in Soweto, but follow up on this initiative in the rest of the country.
