Article on Briggs & Stratton:-

Briggs & Stratton Corporation will begin celebrating its centennial anniversary at the start of 2008. Punctuated by numerous festivities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, home of its corporate headquarters, as well as at its locations worldwide, the Company plans to celebrate its rich legacy of innovation and continuing success. “The Company’s 100th anniversary is a rare opportunity to pull from the Company’s history – the innovation, accomplishments, identity, culture, values and underlying success and to set the stage for the future,” says Laura Timm, Director of Corporate Communications for Briggs & Stratton.

Briggs & Stratton’s vision of The Power Within is an important element of the Company’s 100th Anniversary. This vision exemplifies the core values of Briggs & Stratton’s customers – people who have a can-do spirit, get satisfaction from a job well done, and pass their knowledge to the next generation. According to the Company’s Chairman, President, and CEO John Shiely, “The Power Within forms the cornerstone for the values associated with our roadmap for value creation at Briggs & Stratton. In every corner of our Company, in every department, in every location, you can see the power within us at work.”

The Power Within has been present throughout Briggs & Stratton’s long history with the start of the informal partnership between inventor Stephen F. Briggs and investor Harold M. Stratton in 1908. The Company first purchased the Motor Wheel from A.O. Smith, which was used as a power source for bicycles and the Briggs & Stratton flyer. Later, with the development of the stationary small engine, the Company went on to provide power for people in every aspect in life. This included powering washing machines, providing assistance during World War II, and even developing a gasoline/electric hybrid vehicle.

This continued innovation and dedication to The Power Within has led to Briggs & Stratton being the world’s largest producer of gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment. Its wholly owned subsidiary Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group LLC is North America’s number one manufacturer of portable generators and pressure washers, and is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of lawn and garden and turf care through its wholly owned subsidiary Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc. and its Simplicity®, Snapper®, Ferris® and Murray® brands. Briggs & Stratton products are designed, manufactured, marketed and serviced in over 100 countries on all seven continents.
